I started keeping a watercolor sketchbook this year after being inspired by Nathan Fowkes and Games Gurney’s websites. Both are insanely prolific and have definitely expanded my appreciation of the soluble medium… They are also incredibly humbling.
I painted this particular scene earlier this month in the Okanagan Valley in B.C. I find my savior is using plenty of white gouache to augment the watercolor- it’s more like opaque painting that way. Using an unfamiliar medium makes you feel like you’re learning to draw all over again.
